A Simple Wednesday Prayer

Wednesday - or any day.

I’m in the middle of moving everything from one web & newsletter hosting platform to another, and it’s a bit more complicated than I had expected.

So this week, you get the benefit of a simpler and shorter than usual Wednesday newsletter. You get a prayer that has been towards the center of my prayer life lately, this month in particular.

It’s a good prayer, from St. Augustine, that I enjoy including in meditation in my morning holy hour. I hope you might enjoy it too, or perhaps it will bring some fruit to your prayer life.

My copy is on the back of a prayer card from BARITUS Catholic, with their “The Last Battle” on the other side, which assists in meditation. Unfortunately, I don’t know whether they have a version available at the moment. They have a lot of other beautiful work in their store, though.

Here’s the prayer/reflection:

Remember, Christian soul,
that thou hast this day,
and every day of thy life:

God to glorify,
Jesus to imitate,
The Blessed Virgin and the Saints to venerate,
The Angels to invoke,
A soul to save,
A body to mortify,
Sins to expiate,
Virtues to acquire,
Hell to avoid,
Heaven to gain,
Eternity to prepare for,
Time to profit by,
Neighbors to edify,
The world to despise,
Devils to combat,
Passions to subdue,
Death perhaps to suffer,
And Judgment to undergo.
