An unexpected realization of our dependence on reliable water.

Other Notes & Updates

This article about Phillip Rivers and his return to the NFL was a very interesting read. I continue to learn to never be surprised where God leads you - or leads you back!

This article about the women teaching us (priests & deacons) how to preach was interesting. It was also sad to read about how some of them have been treated in recent years. I actually scanned the article looking for Deb Organ, and when I found her I was even more sad. Deb was one of my homiletics professors in formation, and was a huge help and encouragement in developing my style of preaching.

Today the Church begins praying the “O Antiphons” (recalling titles under which Christ was anticipated by the prophets) each day during the Alleluia before the Gospel at Mass and during Vespers. You know these from the verses of the hymn, "O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” I love December 17-24 because of these antiphons and the anticipation they bring in the final week of run-up to Christmas. Read more about the O Antiphons.

And if you’re already leaning a bit more in the Christmas spirit direction, enjoy this rendition of O Come, All Ye Faithful from The Lemkeys at Benedictine College.

Sunday’s Mass Readings

This Sunday we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Advent. Here’s a link to the Scripture readings for Holy Mass.

A Final Word

“As Christmas approaches, may today's celebration inspire in everyone the enthusiasm to love life, to defend it and to promote it by every legitimate means. This is the best way to celebrate Christmas, by sharing with every person of goodwill the joy of salvation that the incarnate Word brought to the world.”

Pope John Paul II, PASTORAL VISIT TO THE PARISH OF ST BARTHOLOMEW THE APOSTLE IN ROME, December 21, 1997

Until next Wednesday,

Saint Joseph, pray for us.
Saint Michael, defend us in battle.
